These sections explain how to resolve a variety of common issues with the SMART Document Camera 650. If your problem is not listed, or none of the solutions help resolve the issue you are experiencing, check out the following resource:

Issue

Solution

The document camera makes noise after being turned on (the lens is adjusting focus).

  • Make sure the room lighting is adequate, or turn on the document camera’s light by pressing Lamp on the document camera’s control panel or remote control.

  • Press Auto Focus on the document camera’s control panel or remote control to adjust the focus.

The camera’s microphone isn’t working.

  • If you connect using a peer-to-peer (P2P) wireless connection, the document camera’s built-in mic cannot be used to record sound. Instead, use the mic on the device you are connecting to for recording sound.

The camera has an issue not described above.

I can’t find the SMART Doc Cam app on iQ.

  • In iQ, access the SMART Doc Cam app by tapping Apps > Featured Content. In the Android section, tap SMART Doc Cam.

Issue

Solution

The image doesn’t display in Camera mode.

  • Confirm the document camera is on.

  • Check all cables to make sure there are no loose connections. Use standard cable lengths, not longer than 6', when troubleshooting.

The image is distorted or blurry.

  • Make sure the room lighting is adequate, or turn on the document camera’s light by pressing Lamp on the document camera’s control panel or remote control.

  • Press Auto Focus on the document camera’s control panel or remote control to adjust the focus.

  • Press Resolution on the remote control to switch the resolution mode.

  • Change the picture mode to adjust the view.

  • Use the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu to adjust the brightness and contrast manually to reduce the distortion.

  • Restart the document camera by turning it off and then on again.

  • Reset the document camera to its default settings using the OSD menu by navigating to System > Default > Yes.

    Important 

    This will erase all the currently configured settings on the document camera, such as the Wi-Fi connection. If you reset the document camera, you will have to set up these settings again.

The image is dark and unreadable.

  • Make sure the room lighting is adequate, or turn on the document camera’s light by pressing Lamp on the document camera’s control panel or remote control.

  • Press Auto Focus on the document camera’s control panel or remote control to adjust the focus.

  • Change the picture mode to adjust the view.

  • Use the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu to adjust the brightness and contrast manually to reduce the distortion.

The computer image doesn’t display while in Computer Pass-Through (PC) mode.

  • Confirm the document camera is on.

  • Ensure the document camera is in Computer Pass-Through mode.

  • Check all cables to make sure there are no loose connections. Use standard cable lengths, not longer than 6', when troubleshooting.

  • Also check the cables to make sure they're connected to the correct inputs and outputs. The computer should be connected to the document camera’s HDMI IN port. The display should be connected to the document camera’s HDMI OUT port.

  • Connect the computer directly to the display to confirm its desktop appears on the display.

The SMART Document Camera 650 won’t capture images or record video.

OR

The Capture button on the document camera’s control panel or remote doesn’t work.

  • Confirm the document camera is on.

  • If you're using HDMI-Out to connect to a display device, ensure a USB drive is inserted into the document camera to save images and videos.

    • Check that the USB drive is working by connecting it to another device before you connect it to the document camera.

    • Ensure the USB drive is properly inserted into the port.

Issue

Solution

SMART Notebook software doesn’t detect the document camera.

OR

The software doesn’t show the document camera’s image.

  • Confirm the document camera is on.
  • Make sure the document camera is in Camera mode. Press Camera/PC on the document camera’s control panel or remote control.

  • Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off by checking that the Wi-Fi connection indicator light on the document camera’s control panel is not lit. Press WiFion the control panel or remote control to turn Wi-Fi on or off.

  • Check that the latest version of SMART Notebook software and SMART Product Drivers are installed on the computer.

  • Ensure the document camera is directly connected to the computer with a known-working USB cable. Using a USB connection is required to use the document camera with SMART Notebook.

    Note 

    To test the connection, use a single, standard length cable, not longer than 6', to connect to the camera.

  • Check for any physical defects in the USB port or cables.

  • On macOS, make sure additional permission are configured properly.

Issue

Solution

SMART Document Camera 650 software doesn’t detect the document camera.

OR

The software doesn’t show the document camera’s image.

  • Confirm the document camera is on.

  • Make sure the document camera is in Camera mode. Press Camera/PC on the document camera’s control panel or remote control.

  • Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off by checking that the Wi-Fi connection indicator light on the document camera’s control panel is not lit. Press WiFion the control panel or remote control to turn Wi-Fi on or off.

  • Check that the latest version of SMART Document Camera software and SMART Product Drivers are installed on the computer.

  • Ensure the document camera is directly connected to the computer with a known-working USB cable.

    Note 

    To test the connection, use a single, standard length cable, not longer than 6', to connect to the camera.

  • Check for any physical defects in the USB port or cables.

The SMART Document Camera 650 software detects the document camera but can't connect.

  • Check if the document camera’s Wi-Fi connection indicator is slowly flashing blue. A slow flashing blue light indicates an active connection with a different computer. If you can't determine which device the document camera is connected to, you will need to disconnect the Wi-Fi and reset the connection.

    To reset the connection

    1. Close the SMART Document Camera 650 software, turn off the document camera, and remove any HDMI/USB cables connected to the camera. While the HDMI/USB cables are still disconnected, restart the software and turn on the document camera.

    2. Connect to the document camera through Wi-Fi again. Click or tap the Sync button in the SMART Document Camera 650 software to rescan for the document camera.

Issue

Solution

SMART Document Camera software doesn’t detect the document camera.

  • Confirm the document camera is on.

  • Check that the latest version of SMART Document Camera software and SMART Product Drivers are installed on the computer.

  • Close the SMART Document Camera 650 software, turn off the document camera, and remove any HDMI/USB cables connected to the camera. While the HDMI/USB cables are still disconnected, restart the software and turn on the document camera.

  • Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on by checking that the Wi-Fi connection indicator light on the document camera’s control panel is a solid blue. Press WiFion the control panel or remote control to turn Wi-Fi on or off.

  • Check that the document camera’s wireless connection is set to AP wireless mode. To set the connection to AP wireless, use the OSD menu and browse to Wireless > Mode > AP.

  • Ensure the Wi-Fi dongle is inserted into the computer that's running the SMART Document Camera 650 software.

  • Ensure that the local computer isn't running software that might block the connection, such as firewall or antivirus software, or a security connection manager or VPN.

  • Enable the Wi-Fi dongle on the computer:

    1. On the computer’s list of available networks, look for the document camera’s name (SSID) in the Wi-Fi 2 list. The name will look something like SDC650-XXXXXXXXXXXX, where XXXXXXXXXXX is the document camera’s MAC address.

      Tip 

      You can find the MAC address by pressing Info on the control panel or remote control and browsing to Info > System > Information.

    2. Click or tap the Sync button in the SMART Document Camera 650 software to rescan for the document camera.

      If the document camera doesn't appear in the software, restart it by turning it off and then on again.

Issue

Solution

The SMART Document Camera 650 software doesn’t detect the document camera.

  • Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on by checking that the Wi-Fi connection indicator light on the document camera’s control panel is a solid blue. Press WiFion the control panel or remote control to turn Wi-Fi on or off.

  • Click or tap the Sync button in the SMART Document Camera 650 software to rescan for the document camera.

  • Check that the latest version of SMART Document Camera software and SMART Product Drivers are installed on the computer.

  • Ensure that the computer and the document camera are using the same Wi-Fi network.

  • Ensure that the local computer isn't running software that might block the connection, such as firewall or antivirus software, or a security connection manager or VPN.

  • Close the SMART Document Camera 650 software, turn off the document camera, and remove any HDMI/USB cables connected to the camera. While the HDMI/USB cables are still disconnected, restart the software and turn on the document camera.
