SMART Notebook Plus feature. Subscription required.

Create a matching activity where students draw from two different categories to form pairs.

This activity teaches one-to-one correspondence and memory.

Here is an example of a Match ’Em Up activity where students match animals with the sounds the animals make.

Sample Match 'Em Up! actvity: a list of animals and sounds can be dragged into shared boxes in the center of the page.

This activity was created by entering a list of animals alongside animal sounds and then choosing a theme to determine the activity’s look and feel.

Follow the instructions below to create your own version of this activity.

To create a Match ‘Em Up! activity

  1. Click Activities in the SMART Notebook toolbar.

The Select an Activity dialog box opens.

  2. Select Match ’Em Up.

    The activity’s editor opens.

  3. Type names for the two categories students will compare in the Optional Category Name fields.

  4. Enter text or add an image in the first row of both columns below the two categories you’ve defined. This is the first pair of items students will match.

  5. Continue making entries. You can enter up to 10 pairs.

When you start the activity, the entries will be mixed up and students will have to search for matches between the categories.

  6. In the Check Answers section to the right of the text box, select one of the following options:

    • Instantly: see immediately whether the answers are correct.

    • When Prompted: have a Check Matches button appear in the activity so players can decide when to check their work.

  7. When you’re satisfied with how you’ve set up the activity, click Next.

  8. Select a theme for your activity and click Finish.

The activity loads and then appears on a new lesson page.

If you’re delivering the activity at the classroom display, you can add a buzzer, timer, or randomizer game element to facilitate group play. Tap Game Elements to open the game element selector, and select the game element you want to add.
