Troubleshooting screen share connectivity for Google Cast
Use this troubleshooting wizard to resolve connectivity issues with screen sharing.
When trying to connect devices using Google Cast, the following issues occur:
The display’s name does not appear in the list of available displays.
The display’s name appears, but you can’t connect to the display.
Display refers to the SMART Board interactive display or SMART Board display.
Device refers to the Android or Chrome device that is sharing its screen.
On your device, turn on Airplane mode for 30 seconds. Turn Airplane mode off, wait 15 seconds, and then reconnect.
Try sharing your screen again. If the issue persists, click Continue.
Try these additional troubleshooting steps:
Check that the device and display on the same network (and subnet if applicable). The device should be on the same subnet or VLAN as your display. For example, if the display is connected to the XYZ network, the device should also be connected to the XYZ network. Network administrators should refer to Bridging mDNS Connections in Resolving screen share issues for SMART Board interactive displays with iQ for advanced setup information.
Confirm that the screen sharing app is open on the display.
On the display, turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
Confirm that the network’s firewall and proxy settings are configured for screen sharing.
Try sharing your screen again. If the issue persists, click Continue.
If the issue still persists, there may be an issue with the network setup. Contact a network engineer for further assistance.
Confirm that the Google Cast receiver is enabled (see instructions below). If it’s not, enable it.
Try sharing your screen again. If the issue persists, click Continue.
For displays with SMART Mirror
On the display, tap Screen Share to open SMART Mirror’s home screen.
Tap Settings.
Tap Network & Connections and turn on the Google Cast receiver.
For displays with SMART Screen Share
From the iQ Home screen, tap Settings.
Tap Screen Share.
Locate Google Cast and enable it.
On your device, turn on Airplane mode for 30 seconds. Turn Airplane mode off, wait 15 seconds, and then reconnect.
Try sharing your screen again. If the issue persists, click Continue.
Is the device and display on the same network (and subnet)?
When using Google Cast, devices must be on the same network. If subnets are used, they must also be on the same subnet.
If you want to use screen sharing across subnets, consult the network equipment’s vendor for instructions.
Try sharing your screen again. If the issue persists, click Continue.
Has the network been properly configured to allow the required traffic to support Google Cast?
When using Google Cast, services such as mDNS must be enabled as well as specific ports. Check the network configuration requirements to ensure the network is properly configured for Google Cast.
Try sharing your screen again. If the issue persists, click Continue.
There is another issue with the network’s setup. Consult the network equipment’s manufacturer for further assistance.
In the meantime, SMART has a screen sharing client app available for Android and Google devices which can be used instead. Learn more.
