About SMART Service Region
SMART Service Region is a setting that allows users to choose where their data is stored. They might choose based on their own preferences or in accordance with an organization’s guidelines.
There are two service regions:
Global: uses Amazon and Google servers in the US to store user data.
European: uses Amazon and Google servers in Germany and Belgium to store user data.
For new users, SMART automatically sets their service region based on their IP address and the location information they’ve provided for their SMART Account.

Important
Before changing your service region, make sure you read the Before you begin section for important details about this change’s effect on you and other users of SMART software products.
The SMART Service Region setting is available in the following SMART products:
iQ system software 3.8 and later
SMART Notebook software 21.1 and later
Lumio by SMART
SMART Admin Portal
SMART Exchange
Since data (such as existing lesson files) is not automatically transferred when you choose to change your service region, you can request SMART move that data on the next planned migration date.
At this time, the Explore Resources feature in Lumio by SMART is only available for users in SMART’s Global Service Region. Users located in the European Union use SMART’s European Service Region and do not have access to this feature’s lesson content. Therefore, if you try to access these resources either through the Explore Resources feature in Lumio or through a shared link, you will get an error message if you’re using SMART’s European Service Region.
To access this content, you must change your service region to the Global Service Region.
SMART recommends creating two SMART Admin Portal accounts:
One using the European service region: Use this account to provision users located in the EU for SMART software.
One using the Global service region: Use this account to provision users located outside the EU for SMART software.
