Taking a camera snapshot

You can use this view to examine the images reflected to the cameras from the inner edge of the interactive whiteboard frame. By analyzing the images, you can determine whether the controller, cameras or cables are working properly, and whether there are any obstructions.

If nothing happens when you touch the interactive whiteboard surface, ensure that nothing is obscuring any of the cameras’ views.

To obtain a snapshot image from the cameras

  1. In the SMART Board Diagnostics window, select View > SBX800/SBID8070i Bar.

    The SBX800/SBID8070i bar appears.

  2. Click View.

    The camera view window appears.

    Note

The bottom-left camera is Camera 0, the top-left camera is Camera 1, the top-right camera is Camera 2 and the bottom-right camera is Camera 3.

  3. Click Update to show what each of the four cameras sees. This can take several moments.

Each bar represents a picture from a camera, and the number beside the bar tells you which camera took the corresponding picture.

    Note

If the image is too small, click 2x to double the image size.

  4. If one of the cameras’ views remains black, the camera is obstructed or can’t locate the reflective surface on the interactive whiteboard inner frame.

Check the camera lens and ensure that nothing is obstructing the view and that nothing is affixed to the interactive surface.

  5. Click Save Image and then save the file with your choice of file name and location.

    Tip

It’s a good idea to save the file to the SMART Technologies folder. That way, you can save the image with the log file for future reference or to e-mail to your technical support representative.

Below are sample camera images.

Normal image

This image is an example of a normal image, with good contrast.

No image

If your image is solid black for all cameras, there could be something wrong with the master controller or the cable to the cameras. Contact your support representative.

If the image is black for one or more cameras, there could be a problem with the cameras or the cables. Contact your support representative.

Obstructed reflection

In this image, the reflection from an area of the reflective tape on the frame is obstructed. Remove any obstacles that could be blocking the reflection.

Skewed camera

One or more of the camera images are bent or on a steep curve. This is caused by a mechanically misaligned camera. Depending on how curved the images are, touch might not work as expected, and you might see ink gaps in certain parts of the interactive whiteboard screen. In the above image, the curvature in the top row of the camera image would probably cause problems near the edges of the screen. However, a small curvature like the one shown in the bottom camera image shouldn’t cause any problems. The skew is usually within acceptable limits if the camera lens is fully visible, as it is in the image above.

To determine whether the skew is within acceptable limits, perform a Trace test (see Running a Trace test).
