Setting up access
SMART offers flexible options for setting up teachers’ access to the suite. You can either provision teachers' email addresses to give them sign-in based access to SMART Notebook Plus anywhere it is installed, or you can activate SMART Notebook Plus software on individual computers using a product key.

Provisioning the email address a teacher will use to create and sign in to a SMART Account is SMART’s recommended method of providing access to SMART Notebook Plus software.
You can provision teachers’ email addresses in the SMART Admin Portal one at a time or by syncing with a supported rostering tool. Once their email addresses are provisioned, teachers can sign with their SMART Account credentials to access SMART Notebook Plus at school or at home and on any computer where SMART Notebook is installed.
Teachers use the same account credentials to sign in to Lumio by SMART. They can sign in at lum.io on any computer, mobile device, or classroom display that has a compatible web browser.

As an alternative to the email provisioning method, you can use a product key to activate SMART Notebook Plus on a specific computer.
You enter the product key either during a deployment or in the software after it's installed on the computer. See the Installation guide (for single installations) or the System administrator guide (for deployments) on the SMART Notebook Documents page.
Activating with a key is convenient for setting up access on-site because the key can be deployed to all of the computers at your school, but it doesn’t provide access on personal computers.

SMART recommends that you use email provisioning rather than product keys to give teachers access to SMART Notebook Plus software.
Provisioning an email is beneficial for a number of reasons:
Rather than granting access to a computer, email provisioning grants access to a person, which allows teachers to sign in and use SMART Notebook Plus on multiple computers, both at school and at home.
It removes the risk of unauthorized use of a product key outside the organization.
You don't need to enter a product key each time you install the software.
Account sign-in enables teachers to use all the features available with a SMART Learning Suite subscription. Lumio is accessible only through sign-in, and SMART Notebook requires sign-in for most of its interactive features, such as connecting student devices to activities.
For a more information these activation methods, see Determining the best activation method on the SMART Notebook support page.
