Delivering a Handout activity in SMART Learning Suite Online
After you’ve created a Handout activity, you can use the activity dashboard to monitor each student’s progress, opening individual handout pages to mark student work or provide guidance.
Once a handout is created, students can work individually on the page and you can monitor.
If you’ve already set up a Handout activity in your lesson, students can start it as soon as they are on the page that contains the activity.
Their work is saved automatically and you can review their work anytime during and after the lesson.
To deliver an existing handout activity
Open the lesson in Delivery mode and browse to the page that contains the Handout activity.
Select the STUDENT PROGRESS button to open the handout dashboard, which displays a list of students who have started the activity.
Students don’t appear on this list until they start the activity.
To learn how to use the dashboard, see Monitoring Handout activities.
While you’re presenting a lesson to your class, you can start a Handout activity instantly by converting an existing presentation page or by adding a blank page to your lesson and converting it.
Before you can create a Handout activity on the fly, students must join your class. See Helping students join a class.
To start a Handout activity on the fly
In your lesson, browse to the presentation page you want to convert to a Handout activity.
Select and then select Blank Page to add a new page to your lesson.
Select to open the class panel. Because you are on a presentation page with students connected, options appear for making the page interactive.
Select Make this page an Independent Handout Activity.
The handout dashboard appears.
While you wait for students to start the activity you can tap Teacher Handout to open your own copy of the handout and demonstrate how to complete it for the class. Your work will appear on the display but will not affect student copies of the handout. Use to return to the dashboard when you’re done.
As students have start the activity, the dashboard updates with their names, which you can tap to review individual handouts.
Students won’t appear on this list until they start the activity.
To learn more about using the dashboard, see Monitoring Handout activities.
From the handout dashboard, you can select a student to view a student’s progress. While viewing a student’s handout, you can provide feedback using the tools in the sidebar. Students can also mark their handout as Done once they’ve completed it.
To monitor a Handout activity
In the handout dashboard, select a student.
The student’s copy of the handout appears, showing the student’s work.
To provide feedback on the student’s work, use the toolbar on the left to annotate on the page.
After you’re done reviewing the student’s work, tap to return to the handout dashboard or use to browse backward or forward in the student list to another student’s handout.
If you return to the dashboard, you can also tap Teacher Handout to work on your own copy of the Handout as an example for the class.
A green checkmark beside a student’s name on the dashboard indicates that the student has marked handout as complete.
In Handout activities, all student work is saved automatically. This means that if you close the lesson and reopen it, each student’s handout will still be available from the last time you delivered the lesson. If you are delivering to a new class, their names will be added to the dashboard, but the names from the last class will remain on the dashboard.
Resetting the activity will wipe all handouts and refresh the dashboard, preparing the activity for a new class.
To reset a Handout activity
Select from the toolbar on the left.
The activity status dialog.
The activity ends, students are returned to the lesson, and the status dialog updates.
Tap Start. A warning message appears.
Tap Start new activity to confirm your choice.
