About SMART Notebook basic version
SMART Notebook basic version is free software designed for use with a SMART Board interactive display. It comes with many features that you can use to create, edit, and deliver engaging lessons to your students such as:
Creative pen tools
SMART Ink for writing and drawing in digital ink
SMART Ink presentation tools such as screen shade, spotlight, and more
Infinite cloner
Add shapes, text, and images
Interact with page objects
Add text, tables, lines, and shapes
Insert images and widgets (such as interactive dice, timers, and spinners)
Import PowerPoint (Windows only) and PDF files and convert them to SMART Notebook files
Tip
When you install SMART Notebook software on Windows operating systems, you can choose to have SMART Notebook basic version run by default. Setting it as the default program means you will not be prompted to activate the software or receive notifications about upgrading to the full version of SMART Notebook. Learn how.
When you purchase a SMART Learning Suite subscription, you’ll get additional features and functionality in SMART Notebook. The following table lists the additional SMART Notebook features that come with a subscription and compares them to how they behave in the basic version of SMART Notebook.

Lesson Recorder add-on | Using SMART Recorder, you can record your actions on your interactive product. If you connect a microphone to your computer, you can record your voice as well. SMART Blocks add-on | SMART Blocks is an add-on that enables you to perform math activities with your class by writing numbers on the page, and then connecting them to a SMART Block. kapp add-on | Save notes taken on a SMART kapp whiteboard directly into the SMART Notebook page. Share files to their SMART Account | Share files to your SMART Account so you can open them in Lumio by SMART and deliver them on any device to your students.
