SMART Notebook software versions 21.0 and earlier use a technology called TLS 1.0 and 1.1 to protect your data when it's sent over the internet. However, these older technologies now have some weaknesses that make them susceptible to attacks by malicious agents. To keep your data safe while using SMART software, SMART Notebook is phasing out the use of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 and implementing new protections.

To avoid disruptions and stay up-to-date with the best security practices, SMART recommends updating to the latest version SMART Notebook by July 2024. If you don't update by then, you’ll see an error message that says "Trial period has expired" even if you have an active SMART Notebook Plus (SMART Learning Suite) subscription.

Delivering lessons online

When you have completed your lessons and are ready to deliver them to students, you have a few different options for how you deliver them:

Online	Lumio	Sign in to Lumio using your SMART Account credentials to import your SMART Notebook lessons to your lesson library to deliver the lesson online. Some key advantages of using Lumio to deliver your lesson includes: the ability to have students connect to the lesson from their own devices, facilitating individual and collaborative interaction with the lesson the ability to deliver the lesson on any device with a browser, such as Chromebooks. You are not limited to either Windows or Mac operating systems as you would be with the desktop method of delivery listed previously.

To deliver lessons online

Save your SMART Notebook lesson on your computer.
Open a browser and sign in to Lumio. See Signing in to your SMART Account.
Import the SMART Notebook lesson to Lumio. See Adding lessons in Lumio.
In your lesson library, open the lesson you want to deliver. See Starting and ending lessons in Lumio
Use Lumio to deliver the lesson and have students connect to the lesson (if using their own devices will be required). See The Delivery mode interface in Lumio and Helping students join a class.
