Sharing from a Windows computer

You can use Miracast to connect to displays that have SMART Screen Share app and share your Windows devices screen.

To share the desktop of a Windows computer using Miracast

1. From the display’s Home screen, tap Screen Share.

   The home screen for sharing opens providing information you’ll need to connect.

2. On the computer, open the action center , then select Connect.

   Note 

   This procedure varies depending on the version of the Windows operating system you’re using and your system preferences. Follow the instructions for your operating system provided by Microsoft Support.

3. Select the display’s name. The name of the display is shown either in the upper right corner of the screen or on the left side of the screen.

4. (SMART Screen Share only) If permissions are enabled, someone needs to allow the device to share at the board before the device appears in the lobby or can share its screen.

5. To control the computer from the display, select Allow mouse, keyboard, touch, and pen input from this device on the computer.

   Note 

   Controlling the computer from the display is best used for presenting content.

This is an alternate method of sharing your device’s screen and might be useful where the network your display is connected to doesn’t support AirPlay. The SMART Mirror app includes several tools that aid in presenting and collaborating when using SMART Mirror.

To share your Window device’s screen on the display using the SMART Mirror app

1. Download the SMART Mirror app for your device.

   Note 

   The SMART Mirror app won’t work if your network is not configured properly. See Configuring your organization’s network for a SMART Board display with iQ for more information or contact your network administrator.

2. From the display’s Home screen, tap Screen Share.

   The home screen for sharing opens providing information you’ll need to connect.

3. Open the SMART Mirror app on your device.

4. If you want to enable touchback, click Settings in the bottom left corner and select the Touchback control check box.

5. Type the session ID in the SMART Mirror home screen.

   The SMART Mirror home screen displays a 6-digit or 10-digit session ID. The number of digits shown indicates whether or not your device needs to be on the same network as the display:

   • 6-digits: SMART Mirror is connected to the internet, allowing a connection across any network. When connecting using a 6-digit session ID, you can connect from anywhere. You do not need to be on the same network as the display.

   • 10-digits: SMART Mirror allows local connections only. To connect using a 10-digit session ID, your device must be on the same network as the display.

     Tip 

     You can change this setting on the display.

6. Enter your name.

7. Tap or click Connect.

8. If prompted, enter the 4-digit pin. The pin appears on the display next to the session ID.

   Tip 

   You can disable the pin.

9. Now that you are connected you can do the following:

   Option	Description	Steps
   Share your device’s screen	Share your device’s entire screen. Only one person at a time can share their screen.	Click Share my screen.
   Upload a file, photo, video, or link to share	Add a file such as a PDF, image, video, or link from your device. Once uploaded, the shared file can be opened on the display and others connected to the display using SMART Mirror can open the files and download them to their devices. Once a session ends, all shared content will be removed.	Click Shared items. Click Add items. Choose the item type you want to upload and select the file you want. The file is added to the shared files for the session.
   Stop sharing	Stop sharing your device’s screen.	Open the SMART Mirror app on your device. Click Stop presenting.

The SMART Screen Share app allows you to share your whole screen, a single application, or a specific media file. Using this app to share a device’s screen might be useful if the network doesn’t support native screen sharing connections such as Miracast.

To share your Windows computer’s screen on the display

1. On your computer, download and install the SMART Screen Share app from the SMART support site.

2. Open the SMART Screen Share app on your computer.

3. From the display’s Home screen, tap Screen Share.

4. Enter the display’s IP address.

   OR

   Click and scan the QR code on the display with your device.

5. Click Connect.

6. “SMART board has requested to enable touchback” appears on the computer. Click Accept to control the computer from the display.

7. Tap the thumbnail of the device’s screen.

   The device’s screen expands to fill the display’s screen.

8. Select a specific display or program to share.

9. Click Start Sharing.

   If permissions are enabled, someone needs to allow the device to share at the board before the device appears in the lobby or can share its screen.

• Note 

  You can use touchback to interact with the computer’s shared screen from the SMART Board display. If touchback is enabled, you can’t write or draw on the screen using the display’s pens. To disable touchback in the SMART Screen Share app on your computer, click .
