Configuring your organization’s network for SMART Mirror

Network administrators need to configure the network so users can share their devices’ screens. Use the following information to configure the network. You’ll also need to configure the network so all features of the iQ experience function properly. See Configuring your organization’s network for a SMART Board display with iQ.

Important 

SMART strongly recommends that you contact the network equipment manufacturer for more information about network configurations that support screen sharing.

Note 

SMART Mirror is the standard screen sharing app for SMART Board MX (V3) and SMART Board MX (V4) series interactive displays.

If mobile devices and computers are going to share their screens, use the following information to configure the network.

To allow mobile devices and computers to share their screens

  1. Enable the following ports for screen sharing with the SMART Mirror client app over the internet:

  3. If Layer 7 filtering or a proxy with protocol filtering has been applied to the ports above, then administrators will need to allow the following protocols:

    • HTTP

    • HTTPS

    • DTLS

    • XMPP

    • Bonjour protocols for AirPlay and Google Cast

    • SRTP

    • DNS

    • STUN

    • TURN

    • ICE

  4. When screen sharing over the internet with the SMART Mirror client app, the following FQDNs must be unblocked in the Firewall:

    • smartmirror.link

    • netcheck.joindisplaynote.com

    • netcheck.joinmontage.com

    • cast.displaynote.com

    • montage.displaynote.com

    • xmpp.displaynote.com

Issue

Solutions

Mobile devices and computers can’t find the display when using AirPlay or Google Cast.

  • Organizations often block a number of network ports.

    Ask the administrator to allow

    • TCP ports 7000, 8008, 8009, 47000, 7100, 49228, 50259

    • UDP ports 62572 and 54780

    • If using Google Cast, UDP port 1900

    • If using Windows computer or a Mac computer, UDP port 5353.

  • The display’s casting ID may not have propagated yet through the network or may be cached on the network when it’s not actually available. Wait several minutes and attempt to connect again.

  • The network must be configured to run Bonjour and mDNS, and Multicast must be enabled.

  • Ensure your device and display are on the same VLAN or subnet.

SMART Mirror is not working for Windows computers.

  • There might be an issue with the Windows firewall. Check to see if SMART Mirror is allowed to communicate through Windows Firewall.

  • Your antivirus product might be blocking access. See the antivirus product’s help for more information.

SMART Mirror is not working for Mac computers.

  • There might be an issue with the Mac firewall. See OS X: About the application firewall.

  • Your antivirus product might be blocking access. See the antivirus product’s help for more information.

SMART Mirror is not working on Android devices.

  • Turn off the device’s Power Saving mode.

SMART Mirror app closes unexpectedly or the video stops playing on the display.

  • If your display is connected to a 2.4 GHz network, connect your display to a 5 GHz network.

  • Select a less congested Wi-Fi channel.

  • The display changed the connection channel. It may take some time for the display to establish the connection again. If the display can’t establish the connection again, contact SMART Support.
