Set up iQ 4 for the first time
When you install a new display or appliance with iQ 4, or perform a factory reset, you’ll need to complete an initial setup for the system. This setup walks you through a few on-screen instructions which prompt you to choose options such as region, location, network, and so on.

Android requires specific screens and information during setup. Not all of these are required to complete setup so SMART has provided the following guidance when completing the initial setup.
Language, country, and service region | To begin with, you’ll be prompted to select a language, country, and service region. Learn more about SMART’s Service Regions. Note The option to Set the device name also appears during these initial set up procedures on iQ 4.1 software (and later). It important that you assign a name for this device. This should be a unique name on your network. |
---|---|
Wi-Fi network | Choosing a network is an optional step as this can be configured later in settings. If you have an ethernet connection, or if you prefer to continue offline, you can skip this step. If you choose to continue setting up offline, you will skip the next few options. |
Google account sign in | If you have an internet connection, you’ll be prompted with personal options to copy apps and data, and to sign in to a Google account. SMART recommends skipping both of these options during the initial setup. Alternatively, if your organization has set up a generic Google account to be used as the display’s default user, you can sign in with that account’s credentials during setup. Individual users can use Google sign in later to access their Google accounts. |
Google services | Review and accept the Google Terms of Service. Optionally, turn off any unwanted services. |
Set a PIN | If this is a shared device, SMART strongly recommends skipping this step. You will be able to set a PIN later if necessary. |

Once the setup wizard is complete, you should do the following.
Update software | When a display is being used for the first time and it has a network connection, after the setup wizard is complete (or you connect to the internet for the first time), you will be notified that a software update is required. If you choose to update now, the update runs in the background while you continue setting up your display. If you choose to update later, the update runs during the next scheduled update window. |
---|---|
Set the device name | It’s important that you assign a name to the display. From the Home screen, select Settings |
Enroll in SMART Remote Management | Your display has a built-in feature that enables you to enroll the display with your organization’s SMART Remote Management account. When you enroll the display, you can use SMART Remote Management to centrally control the display’s features and settings. |

You may want to consider making other changes to the configuration after setup.
Disable unwanted apps | Disable any unwanted apps from the display. Manage access to apps by going to Settings |
