Locking down settings

Administrators can restrict access to display settings by locking them down. To do this, you’ll need to create a lockdown certificate and save it to a connected USB drive.

You can choose to:

  • Fully lock down settings by removing access to the Settings app entirely.

    OR

  • Lock specific settings as predefined by SMART.

Both options require a lockdown certificate if you choose to initiate settings lockdown from the display. You can also use SMART Remote Management to lock down displays.

Important 

If the lockdown certificate is lost while the settings are locked down, you'll have to perform a factory reset to regain access to settings.

Tip 

Make a backup of the lock down certificate to ensure you still have access to it in case the original is lost.

  1. Insert an FAT-formatted USB drive into the display.

  2. From the Home screen, tap Settings.

  3. Tap SMARTLock Down Settings and then turn Enable settings lockdown on.

  4. Tap Select lockdown type and choose Limited settings access.

  5. Click Confirm.

  6. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter a name for the lockdown certificate, and then tap Create.

    The following settings are locked down:

    Setting

    Notes

    SMART

    SMART board mode

    You can’t change the display’s access mode (shared or dedicated access).

    Network settings

    Wi-Fi

    The display can't connect to a Wi-Fi network it has never connected to before. However, the Wi-Fi setting can still be toggled on and off to help with troubleshooting connectivity if the display has been configured to connect to a Wi-Fi network.

    Bluetooth

    If Settings are locked with Bluetooth on, you can still toggle Bluetooth on and off to troubleshoot and pair devices.

    SMART iQ Ethernet

    You can't configure the ethernet network settings.

    Personalization

    Wallpaper

    You can't change the wallpaper.

    Application settings

    Launcher

    You can't change which apps are available.

    Installed Apps

    You can't configure any installed app settings, such as access to the apps store.

    Notifications

    You can't configure any notification settings for installed apps.

    SMART Whiteboard

    You can't configure any of the SMART Whiteboard settings like whiteboard storage policies, SMART kapp mobile app integration, annotation layers, finger inking, or shared whiteboard.

    Screen Share

    		You can't configure any of the Screen Share settings such as protocols, logging, connection behaviors, or screen share apps.

    System settings

    DiagnosticsYou can't change settings for advanced diagnostics or participation in using metrics.

    Display

    You can't change HDMI output settings or input lobby behavior (title, resolution, etc.).

    AboutBoard NameYou can't rename the display.
    Date & TimeYou can't change any of the date and time settings.
    LanguageYou can't change the display's language or ink-to-text recognition settings.
    SecurityYou can't change any security settings like certificates, clean up policies, automatic log in and log out, or make passwords visible.
    Software updateYou can't check for software updates manually or change automatic software updates

    Remote Management

    You can't enroll the display in SMART Remote Management or configure the settings

    System

    You can't configure any of the system settings such as hardware controls, enable or disable the iQ experience, or change the default input.

    Power

    You can't configure any of the power settings such as energy saving options, or when the screen turns off.

  7. Remove the USB drive and keep it in safe place.

    Tip 

    Make a backup of the lock down certificate to ensure you still have access to it in case the original is lost.

  1. Insert an FAT-formatted USB drive into the display.

  2. From the Home screen, tap Settings.

  3. Tap SMARTLock Down Settings and then turn Enable settings lockdown on.

  4. Tap Select lockdown type and choose No settings access.

  5. Click Confirm.

  6. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter a name for the lockdown certificate, and then tap Create.

    All of the display's settings are locked down.

  7. Remove the USB drive and keep it in safe place.

    Tip 

    Make a backup of the lock down certificate to ensure you still have access to it in case the original is lost.

If you've already created a lock down certificate, you can use it to lock the Settings app.

To lock down settings with an existing lock down certificate

  1. Insert a USB drive with the lock down certificate on it into the display.

  2. From the Home screen, tap Settings.

  3. Tap SMARTSettings Lockdown and then turn Enable settings lockdown on.

  4. Tap Select lockdown type and choose the type of lockdown certificate that applies to the one saved on the USB drive.

  5. Tap the name of the existing certificate that is shown to apply it.

    The settings are locked down.

If you've locked down settings with a lock down certificate, you can use the lock down certificate to unlock them.

To unlock settings

  1. Insert a USB drive with the certificate on it into the display.

    Important 

    Only connect the USB drive with the certificate to the display. If you connect other USB drives to the display at the same time, the display's settings might not unlock.

  2. From the Home screen, tap Settings.

  3. Tap SMARTSettings Lockdown.

  4. Tap on the certificate shown.

    The Settings app is available.
