The Lumio Beta channel
The Lumio Beta channel is for users who are comfortable participating in an evolving environment. The beta channel offers access to new features that are in development. Your participation helps us gather information about feature stability, performance, and workflow integration.
After opting into the beta channel, you’ll receive emails with the latest updates when beta features are added or removed. You can also go to smarttech.uservoice.com/ to learn more about upcoming beta releases or to submit a request.
Important
Beta features are identified with the Beta badge
.The user interface and feature behavior might change significantly as features develop.
You might encounter bugs or other unexpected behavior in beta features.
Features previewed in the beta channel might not appear in the released channel.
Beta features might be added or removed at any time.
If you opt out of the Lumio Beta channel or a beta feature is removed, your saved files will work correctly most of the time.
These are the features currently available in the Lumio Beta channel.
Adding widgets in Delivery mode
You can add a widget to a lesson page at any time. When the widget is on a page, you can move, resize, or customize settings such as type, color, sounds, and more.
The widgets currently available are:
- Spinner
- Dice
- Traffic Light
- Timer
Visit smarttech.uservoice.com/ to leave feedback or submit a request for future widgets.
Note
Widgets are only available in Delivery mode and in Teacher view. Students don’t have the ability to insert widgets.
To add a widget to a lesson page
In Delivery mode, browse to the lesson page you want to add a widget to.
Tap
.The gallery opens.
Tap
to open the widget menu.Tap or drag a widget to add it to the lesson page.
Notes
Widgets stay open across lesson pages until removed.
You can have multiple instances of the same or different widget on a page.
Change the size of the widget by dragging its corners.
The widget can be moved as needed.
(Optional) Customize the widget based on the class’s needs.
To remove a widget from a lesson page
- Tap the X in the top right corner of the widget.
Teachers can quickly launch a session with a ready-made activity, or open a whiteboard to model, solve, or brainstorm with students.
To use Instant start
From My Library, tap
Instant start.
Select the type of activity from the options provided.
Optional: Rename the new session. You will be able to access it from the Class Sessions tab later.
Tap Ok and deliver the activity as usual.
Lumio introduces a left navigation sidebar. Expand it for full menu labels, or collapse it to save screen space.

The new classroom management tools in the Manage class menu give you quick access to utilities you can use any time during your day—no lesson required. In addition to the existing options, you will find two new classroom management tools here:
Widget wall: A set of classroom tools you can use any time.
Noise monitor: The noise monitor measures the volume level in your classroom using your device's microphone. Lumio never records audio. It only measures volume.
Note
In Lumio beta, the Edit class button is now Manage class.
To use Widget wall
From the Class banner, tap Manage class
Widget wall.

Tap any widget from the menu at the bottom of the screen and it appears on the Widget wall.

Follow the instructions the widget provides.
To remove a widget, tap X.

In Settings
, you can change your theme and fonts.Change your background from this menu in the top-right corner:

Tap Recipes
for preloaded widget combinations, and customize each widget to your needs.
To use Noise monitor
From the Class banner, tap Manage class
Noise monitor.

In Teacher controls, set up:
Type an optional message to the class.
Adjust the microphone sensitivity to match your room.
Set the goal timer. The default is 5 minutes.
Choose what happens when noise crosses the threshold.
Show or hide Mio, an animated character that reacts to noise levels in real time.
Tap Start. Make sure to allow microphone permissions.
To exit the Noise monitor before the timer finishes, tap Reset to return to the setup screen.

To join the beta channel
Open the User
menu and select Join Lumio Beta.Click the switch
to turn the option on.Click Confirm
OK to get early access to new features. You’ll find the new features in the User
menu.
To leave the beta channel
Open the User
menu and select Leave Lumio Beta.Click the switch
to turn the option off.Click Confirm
OK. You can rejoin the beta channel at any time.
SMART appreciates your willingness to use Lumio Beta releases, and we value all types of feedback, including feature requests and reports of issues.
You can provide direct feedback on each beta feature.
To send feedback
After using a beta feature in Lumio, you’ll be prompted to provide a rating.

After selecting a rating, you can add details of your experience.

Open the Help
menu and click Beta feedback.Select the feature you want to give feedback for from the drop-down menu.
Click Give feedback.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
From the Help
menu, you can also report an issue or request a feature.
The Lumio Beta channel is a rapidly changing environment.
Beta features used within the Lumio Library or while editing a file don’t affect students.
In some cases where a beta feature affects content on the whiteboard page, a student might receive this message:

Beta features used within the Lumio Library or while editing a file don’t affect teachers who haven’t joined the Lumio Beta.
In some cases where a beta feature affects content on the whiteboard page, a teacher might receive this message:

No, all your saved files will function as they always have.
Files created in the Lumio Beta will remain in your library even after you have opt to leave the beta channel.
